Directions
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

Gradually add water and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Divide the dough into 5 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.

Using your thumb, poke a hole in the center of each dough ball and stretch it to form a bagel shape.

Place the shaped bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Cover the bagels with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully drop the bagels into the boiling water.

Boil the bagels for 1 minute on each side, then remove them from the water and place them back on the baking sheet.
Step 11
Sprinkle the bagels with poppy seeds.
Step 12
Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Step 13
Remove the bagels from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
