Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and butter. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 3
Add the water to the flour mixture and mix until a dough forms. Shape the dough into a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Step 4
Meanwhile, prepare the plum filling. Wash and pit the plums, then cut them into wedges. In a large bowl, combine the plums, port wine, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat the plums in the mixture.
Step 5
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a circle that is about 30cm (12 inches) in diameter. Transfer the dough to a tart pan and press it into the bottom and sides of the pan.
Step 6
Pour the plum filling into the tart shell and spread it out evenly. Fold any excess dough over the edges of the filling.
Step 7
Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the plums are tender and the pastry is golden brown.
Step 8
Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
